Ramush Haradinaj Acquitted in The Hague

Ramush Haradinaj, the former PM of Kosovo, was indicted on 37 counts, including murder, rape, and torture. He was accused of having driven Rroma and Serbs alike from their homes, killed them etc. during the War in Kosovo. The prosecution had requested a 25 year sentence against him.

The international court in The Hague acquitted him on April 3rd, and he has already returned to Kosovo to a hero's welcome.

How he could be freed and washed of all charges relating to ethnic cleansing with the facts at hand: Only 10-15% of Rroma remain in the country, the Serb minorty has also been strongly reduced, and other minorities such as the Gorani and Turks have also been driven from their homes.

Even more suspect, several of the Rroma witnesses were threatened, and in one case, one of them died in a suspicious car accident. As a result, several of the Rroma witnesses decided not to testify at this trial.

The international community has unfortunately given a wrong signal: It is acceptable to ethnically clean one's country, provided this only affects some of the weakest minorities.
